# Golan Heights with a Licensed Guide

> North Israel · About 9 Hours. Licensed private tour with Ilya Pevzner (The Israel Guide).

This area of Israel is very special and fascinating from many perspectives.

Historically, archaeologically, and geographically, it is a region of great importance. It is mentioned in the Old Testament and was conquered in ancient times by Jewish kings in the 8th century BCE. The ancient population included both Jewish and non-Jewish communities.

Hippos (Sussita) was an important ancient city and regional capital, and the story of the heroes of Gamla is one of the most tragic and heroic chapters of Jewish history.

The region is also unique from a geological perspective, with around 60 dormant volcanoes and a wide range of volcanic phenomena. There are 12 types of ancient lava, and the rocks preserve evidence of paleomagnetism, recording the orientation of the Earth’s ancient magnetic poles.

In modern history, the area played a significant role in the Israeli–Syrian conflicts of 1967–1973.

Today, the region offers dozens of boutique wineries, excellent restaurants, and breathtaking natural landscapes.
